Cleaning

When we stay in short term rentals we always look at the cleaning fee and ask, “Is that reasonable?” We want you to know what your fee is applied to and hope you find it valuable. For both properties Kat and I usually do the cleaning ourselves. Occasionally we pay someone to clean. When we do, we pay our cleaner more than what we charge.

Here is our cleaning process:

  • We wash ALL the bed linens including the comforters and pillow shams. We also wash all the towels, bath mats, etc. if you touch it, we wash it.
  • Every surface is disinfected and scrubbed. We don’t spray cleaner and rinse. The showers, toilets, and sinks are scrubbed with all purpose cleaner and bleach cleaner.
  • The futon and lounge chairs are cleaned with disinfectant and water.
  • We wipe down everything with cleaner. The kitchen table, chairs, fridge (inside and out), stove, microwave, door handles, light switches, remote, thermostat, and all surfaces.
  • We inspect dishes and cookware before putting them away.
  • Floors are swept, carpets vacuumed, rugs shook out, and everything is mopped with cleaner.
  • Everything is dusted.
  • We do other things occasionally like change the HVAC filters, scrub the vent hood, and defrost the freezers.
  • Outside we clean the grill and maintain the grounds (weather permitting).

If something isn’t satisfactory please let us know so we can make it right. You’re our guests and we’re not offended at all!

Our pet fee is small and only to cover the extra work that comes with furry friends.

Supplies

  • As a part of your stay we provide k-cups, tea, spices, oil, & sweeteners.
  • We provide laundry detergent, dryer sheets, trash bags, dish soap/sponges, paper towels, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and individual “hotel” bars of soap, cotton balls, q-tips, & sunscreen. There are citronella candles, bug repellent, and propane for the grills. You are welcome to use any cleaning supplies. If you need something during your stay please let us know!

Safety/Security

Your access code is unique. We do not re-use codes among guests. When you leave we delete your code. We have two cameras on the cottage that monitor the front and back outside (none inside). We also have a smart thermostat in the cottage and smart plugs in both houses. If you’ll be arriving any time in the dark we can turn lights on remotely for you. We have smart TVs that you must select a check out date to use. They will automatically log you out of everything at check out. There are wired smoke detectors, a CO detector (in the cottage) and fire extinguishers. The cabin even has a fire suppression system. If you disable the smoke detectors or cameras during your stay we will ask that you leave. That sounds harsh, but we’ve had people do it and can only imagine why. If something is malfunctioning let us know so we can fix it!

Except for taking out and putting back the trash can we will always let you know if we (or anyone) will be on the property during your stay. That includes mowing the lawn. It’s your space during your stay. We try to let everyone know if there are guests in the other house as well. Don’t hesitate to message us for anything during your stay.

You may see our dog Scout during your stay. She is the friendliest dog we’ve ever known and loves kids, belly rubs, and other pets.
